Create warrior cat names that follow the naming conventions from Erin Hunter's Warriors series. Each name combines a nature-inspired prefix with a rank-based suffix — from kits (-kit) to apprentices (-paw) to warriors (-heart, -claw, -fur) and leaders (-star). Generate names for ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan characters.
How Warrior Cat Names Work
Every name in the Warriors series follows a strict two-part system: a prefix that stays with the cat for life, and a suffix that changes as the cat advances through clan ranks. The prefix is chosen at birth by the kit's mother, usually based on appearance, the season, or something notable about the birth. The suffix is earned — assigned by the clan leader when an apprentice becomes a warrior.

Warrior Suffixes by Trait
When an apprentice earns their warrior name, the leader picks a suffix that reflects a defining quality. Here are the most common warrior suffixes and what they suggest about the cat:
- -heart — bravery, loyalty, compassion (Fireheart, Lionheart)
- -claw — fighting skill, fierceness (Tigerclaw, Darkstripe)
- -fur — general purpose, often for cats without a standout trait (Graystripe's mother Willowpelt)
- -pelt — similar to -fur, often tied to coat appearance (Willowpelt, Sandstorm was nearly Sandpelt)
- -tail — agility, balance, or a notable tail (Brightheart's original name attempt, Halftail)
- -foot — speed, stealth (Deadfoot, Crowfeather was briefly Crowpaw)
- -storm — power, intensity (Sandstorm, Whitestorm)
- -nose — tracking ability, keen senses (Runningnose, Goosefeather)
- -whisker — wisdom, age (Longtail's original, Onewhisker)
- -flight — speed, grace (Squirrelflight)
- -pool — calm, reflective nature (Leafpool, Brightpool)
- -shade — stealth, mystery (Fernshade, Nightshade)
Names by Clan
Each clan's territory and culture shape its naming patterns. Choosing a prefix that matches a clan's environment makes names feel more authentic:
ThunderClan
Forest cats who value courage and loyalty. Their territory is dense woodland, so names often reference trees, undergrowth, and forest animals. Common prefixes: Bramble-, Oak-, Fern-, Thorn-, Squirrel-, Birch-, Maple-. Famous names: Firestar, Bramblestar, Squirrelflight, Leafpool.
RiverClan
Water-loving cats who are the best swimmers among the clans. Names reference water, fish, and riverbank plants. Common prefixes: Reed-, Mist-, Pike-, Otter-, Trout-, Willow-, Silver-. Famous names: Crookedstar, Mistystar, Silverstream, Hawkfrost.
WindClan
Fast, lean cats who live on open moorland. Names reference wind, grass, rabbits, and the sky. Common prefixes: Hare-, Breeze-, Heather-, Gorse-, Running-, Swift-, Crow-. Famous names: Tallstar, Onestar, Crowfeather, Heathertail.
ShadowClan
Secretive, cunning cats from the pine forest and marshland. Names tend toward darker natural elements. Common prefixes: Night-, Dark-, Shade-, Raven-, Pine-, Toad-, Scorched-. Famous names: Brokenstar, Tigerstar (originally ThunderClan), Blackstar, Tawnypelt.
SkyClan
The fifth clan, re-established far from the original forest. Known for their jumping ability and connection to birds. Common prefixes: Sky-, Hawk-, Sparrow-, Leaf-, Echo-, Blossom-, Plum-. Famous names: Leafstar, Hawkwing, Echosong, Bellaleaf.

- Ginger/Orange — Fire-, Flame-, Amber-, Fox-, Copper-, Russet-, Sorrel-
- Black — Night-, Raven-, Crow-, Dark-, Shadow-, Ebony-, Coal-
- White — Snow-, Ice-, Cloud-, Frost-, White-, Pale-, Dove-
- Gray — Ash-, Stone-, Smoke-, Gray-, Silver-, Cinder-, Slate-
- Brown/Tabby — Bramble-, Oak-, Bark-, Mud-, Tawny-, Hazel-, Wren-

Creating an OC for Roleplay or Fan Fiction
A good Warriors OC needs more than just a name. Here's a quick checklist for building a complete character:
- Name — Use the generator and pick a combination that matches the character's appearance and personality
- Clan — Pick a clan that fits their skills (fighters tend toward ThunderClan, swimmers to RiverClan)
- Rank — Decide where they are in life: kit, apprentice, warrior, elder, medicine cat, or leader
- Appearance — Coat color, pattern, eye color, scars, and any distinguishing marks
- Personality — At least one strength and one flaw to make them interesting
- Backstory — A key event that shaped who they are

Naming Rules from the Books
The Warriors series has a few naming rules that are rarely broken:
- Prefixes cannot be the name of another clan (no Thunder-, Shadow-, Wind-, River-, or Sky- as a prefix)
- Only leaders receive the suffix -star — no kit is ever named Star-anything
- The prefix "Moon" is reserved for the Moonstone/Moonpool, so it's almost never used (Moonflower is a rare exception from the older books)
- Kittypets, rogues, and loners use single names (Rusty, Scourge, Sol) until they join a clan
- Medicine cats may receive a name from StarClan in a vision, though this is rare
